Pioneer Session | Jeremy Lent - The Web of Meaning: Integrating Science and Traditional Wisdom to Find our Place in the Universe
Our dominant worldview of disconnection, tells us we are: 1) split between mind and body, 2) separate from each other, and 3) at odds with the natural world.
This worldview has passed its expiration date and needs to be replaced by a worldview of deep interconnectedness, argues Jeremy Lent.
Why? As our civilization is heading towards a precipice of climate breakdown, ecological destruction, and gaping inequality, people are losing their existential moorings. It's not just dangerous—it's based on a series of flawed assumptions that have been superseded by modern scientific findings.
Jeremy concludes that:
Once we shift our worldview, another world becomes possible.
Latest book - In The Web of Meaning (June 2021) Jeremy offers a coherent and intellectually solid foundation for an alternative worldview based on deep interconnectedness, showing how modern scientific knowledge echoes the ancient wisdom of earlier cultures.
Weaving together findings from modern systems thinking, evolutionary biology, and cognitive neuroscience with insights from Buddhism, Taoism, and Indigenous wisdom, it offers a rigorous and integrated way of understanding our place in the cosmos that can serve as a philosophical foundation for a life-affirming future.
